The Iraqi War Dead Lie

January 13, 2008 / by bigbob47

A study claiming that 650,000 people had been killed as a result of the 2003 Iraq invasion was uncovered as a distortion of fact by the New England Medical Journal, as well as almost all other legitimate consensus's.  The study in question appeared in the Lancet Medical Journal and was funded partly by anti-war billionaire and full-time Bush critic George Soros, and lead by an anti-war front.  A new study conducted by the New England Medical Journal estimates that fewer than 151,000 have died as a result of the invasion since 2003. This includes terrorist activity and sectarian violence as well as all deaths due to military action. At the time of the Lancet study it is estimated that the study numbers were up to 10X higher than fact.  Although no innocent death due to military action is ever excused, this just goes to show how far the extreme left will go to advance their agenda.....Truth be damned. George Soros is a domestic terrorist in his own rights.

I wondered when this nonsense would be exposed. Nobody with even a passing interest in statistics ever had any faith in the Lancet study. Not because Soros was its banker, which wasn't widely known, but because its rigor was obviously lacking. Nonetheless, the rabid anti-Bush, anti-US, anti-war forces seized upon it as the bloody proof that our hated Iraq policy was causing mass slaughter of innocents. To put it in perspective, the 151,000 NEJM number over 4.75 years equals an annual violence caused death toll of 31,789. In light of Iraq's 27.5 million population, that translates into an annual death war/insurgency related death rate of one-tenth of one percent - or 1 per 1,000 people. That corresponds to the overall death rate from all causes in Iraq, which according to the UN has steadily decreased from 5.84 to 5.26 per 1,000 between 20003 and 2007. In other words, during the US presence there, Iraqi's have been and remain more than 5 times more likely to die of non-war/insurgency related cause than of any presumably US stimulated violence.

Well stated and to the point. The liberals hate factual information. They want to put all the deaths at the hands of rabid bands of sadistic GI's, not sword weilding maniacs who would kill their grandmothers for forgetting to cover their ankles.

I thought all along that 650,000 was way over the top.

The truth is we will never know the real figures, because of Rummy's disrespectful and what I think should be criminal decision to ignore the number of dead. The lancet study was conducted with the same methodology applied to other regional conflicts, such as Kosovo if I remember correctly, why people don't want to accept it as true for Iraq is just a showing of guilt in my opinion. This new figure looks very "optimistic" so to speak.

I am curious though, how do you connect Soros to the Lancet study, last I checked he wasn't a researcher or a statastician...[HUH]

Soros funded over half of all capital for the Lancet studies and, if you don't think he heavily influenced who, what, how in all aspects of the findings I have some land in Crawford to sell you.

"The survey was not funded by Soros. It was funded by MIT. OSI only provided funds for public education. And the authors of the study weren't even aware of the OSI funding, so there was no possible way Soros could have influenced them. Why didn't this appear in Montague's story? Oh right, Montague is being paid by a pro-war billionaire."

P.S. does this new study (and I have already read it and it don't), include deaths from destruction of infrastructure that was suppose to have been not made a target due to Geneva conventions protections of civilian populations in a time of war, such as water, electricity, ect? Does it take into account Cholera, poverty, or the lack of health care because of unstable conditions in that country forcing as many as 75% of physicians to flee? Even death counts, don't factor in the true and complete impacts of this illegal invasion and occupation.

Boy am I glad it may be only a few hundred thousand even though this report is incorrect. This is a pretty goofy post I must say: it's incorrect and George is not a terrorist...it's almost perverse, grossly inaccurate assertions, and no remorse for the loss of life...this is something I would expect to see on SOB for America? [COOL]

You should know about goofy posts...You are the King of half truths and misleading stories....And I have stated over and over that any loss of life is to much, of course you continue to read between the lines. Think what you want of Soros. I think he is self-serving, subversive and blinded by hatred. I am not for the war. I am against biased and misleading reporting of fact.

Congratulations! Confession is good for the soul. Your Administration and Congress can complete the process by pleading guilty in the world courts to the 151,000 murders.
  • bigbob47 said 7 months ago

And what of the hundreds of thousands murdered at the hands of the Iraqi military and secret police for decades? And all those around the globe murdered by rabid, fundementalists scum every single day?  How many of the 151.000 were killed by insurgents, or hard core fundementalists in Iraq.....If God were to strike down all the guilty people of this planet, we wouldn't have enough left for a good New Years Eve bash.

Well I see that you have two honest people leaving comments  and the usual  flakes ant closet cases who have been exposed for the terrorist loving commies they are , the scum  always floats together in the sewer,

How do you like this new setup ???????

  • bigbob47 said 7 months ago

The set up will take some time to get used to...I am back after several long and exhausting months of treatment and R&R....Anyway Joe, I enjoy being attacked by those who call me friend.  It is not enough to present their opinion, they have to be insulting and arrogant...It's fine because there is a new me coming back to blogster.

I think the taglines are very good to draw from a wider audience. However, the new system makes it harder to contact newcomers. Also, it was easier to track new blogs on the old system.

In my opinion, I believe everyone who comments is giving his honest opinion including Lancet and John McCain. His estimate of 80,000 is the lowest I have seen.

80,000 deaths wouldn't have caused 2 millions to abandon their homes and another 2 millions to leave Iraq.

Aside from a few pundits and the Iraqis themselves, nobody cares how many people died in Iraq.
